The Peter Snowden stable is hoping Forget can force his way into the Group One $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes with a win in the Talindert Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.
The beautifully-bred colt, by Exceed And Excel from Thousand Guineas winner Mnemosyne, is yet to earn any prizemoney having run second last to Pierro in the AJC Breeders Plate (1000m) at Randwick on October 1 last year at his only start.
However he has shown the stable plenty of ability in gallops and trials and he finished runner-up to Black Caviar’s half-brother All Too Hard in an 800m jumpout at Flemington last Friday.
“I was happy with him. We put the winkers on the horse, he’s still lost in the head. He’s going to be a next-time-through job but he needs to run very well here,” Melbourne stable foreman Paul Snowden said.
“He’s still in the Diamond and in the betting, but he needs to really perform well to warrant running in a race like that.
“It’s up to the horse. If he does happen to win, they’ll (Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley Australia) consider backing him up and running.”
Kerrin McEvoy will ride Forget who will have winkers on for the first time in the Talindert which was reduced to a field of 12 after the scratching of the David Hayes-trained Extreme Impact.
Forget is at $15 for Saturday week’s Blue Diamond (1200m) at Caulfield with TAB Sportsbet and at that price is rated higher than stablemates Rusambo ($17) and Applegate ($21).
The Mick Price-trained filly Samaready is dominating Blue Diamond betting as $2.30 favourite.
The Patinack Farm-owned All Too Hard is also in the Listed Talindert (1100m) but co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said a decision had to be made on whether the Casino Prince colt ran or went back to Sydney to make his racing debut.
Forget has firmed from $4.20 to $3.20 favouritism ahead of All Too Hard at $4, Liberty Rock at $5, Lil Red Corvette at $8.50 with Strive To Excel and Timely Truce at $13.
